ARTIST BIO:
Kiela "The Key" Smith-Upton, is an inspiring and visionary professionally trained fine artist, arts consultant,business woman and a recognized mural expert with 20+ years experience. She was also raised in a family of architects with their own firms for nearly 40 years. Kiela graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, studied in Cote D'Ivoire, West Africa with Parson's School of Design, and believes success includes a commitment to lifelong learning and personal development.

Intro to Painting I
ARTIST BIO:
Adedayo was born to the royal family of Oba Adetoyese Laoye, The Timi of Ede. This famous Yoruba King toured throughout Europe in the 1960's with the traditional Yoruba talking drum and instilled in Dayo a strong belief and conviction for this culture and traditional values.With the support of his parents, Dayo was able to spend his childhood pursuing his strong interest in art and drawing. Dayo later worked on portraiture using as subjects his fellow students, teachers, and special guest to the school. A graduate of School of Fine Art, Yaba College of Technology, he worked for the Nigerian Television Authority, various advertising agencies as a graphic artist and two national newspaper as a political cartoonist. In 1988 while studying at Howard University, Washington, D.C., he became acquainted with contemporary African-American art and its search for a link with the past

CLASS DESCRIPTION:
This 6wks class will demonstrate the different approach in Painting. Figure painting(from a Live Model),Still life(Fruits or Flowers)and Landscape(outdoor) will be addressed. Various media,such as Watercolor & Acrylics will be used. The class will visit 1 Artist's Studio(probably mine)

Drawing - Portraiture
ARTIST BIO:
Max Sansing is a Chicago born native and raised on the South Sides Avalon Park area.  His Father and Mother were both artist and Max naturally picked up the love for painting from them at the early age of ten.  Fueled by the desire to create Max would later go on to teach himself oil painting, followed up by two years of formal  college training at the American Academy for Art (1999-2000).  He would further expand his talents by creating murals throughout Chicago and by translating art into electronic media by becoming a graphic design artist.  Max's work has been displayed at art galleries and special events throughout Chicago.

CLASS DESCRIPTION:
This class is designed for the students who wish to accurately draw a human head (portrait) in a realistic manner. Class will begin with the study of the underlying anatomical structure of the human head, individual features, and the proportion within the head. These topics will be combined with fundamentals of drawing technique and the use of various media.

Artist Bio:
Edwin Harris Jr. is an experienced and influential art teacher from Matteson, IL. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Iowa State University in Ames, IA.  He has expertise in creating immersive and memorable illustrations for print and web.  He is currently pursuing to continue his education by obtaining his masters in art education. 

Class Description:
In this course students will learn that art is a personal expression.  In addition, students will understand that their works of art are unique and valuable as self-expressions.  The students will be introduced to a variety of art materials, skills, techniques, and processes.

Bio
Elisha Hal is the founder of Live Free Arts & Media Collective, a truth sharing resource for the community. Winner of the 2010 LinkTV Digital Media Contest, Elisha has worked with youth and art/media for over 10 years. Recently, he filmed numerous video projects for the Chicago Filed Museum, Chicago Memorial Hospital, Alliance for Climate Education and many others. He has taught photography in Minneapolis, and various locations in Chicago. He is now coordinating multiple art and media projects in Chicago.

Class Description
When a camera speaks, what does it say?  Photo Justice, is a digital photography class fused with creative writing and sprinkled with performance arts. Students will learn advanced photography skills, and share creative writing about their experiences, neighborhoods and personal goals.  This class is great for any aspiring photographer/writer, or for those new to photography/creative writing.  We will also share our work in an exhibit at the end of the class.

Each conversation brings together two artist/SSCAC affiliates of different generations to enrich our archive of personal, institutional, and art history at the Center.
